Canadian, Texas - Oasis of the High Plains
Rich in History
Incorporated in 1887, Canadian, Texas is named for the Canadian River, which flows just north of town. Located in the high plains of the Texas Panhandle, Canadian is the site of the first public rodeo in Texas, in 1888. That same year, the first sale of city lots and blocks was held, and is commemorated every year with a four-day Independence Day celebration and Rodeo. Over 130 years later, you can still visit historic working family ranches and experience the history of the pioneers and Native Americans who settled the area.
